CCCX #4 This Sunday At The Former Army Base Of Ft Ord.

Congratulations to all the District Champions and BASP Series winners, and everyone who took part in the past weekends events!

The CCCX Series will host its race #4 this coming Sunday Dec. 10 in the East Garrison area of Ft Ord. The race route will be similar to CCCX race #2 held there on Oct 1, but some new editions will be added to spice up the action.

The weather looks to be ideal for Cyclocross with possible moisture and precipitation expected to liven up the racing exploits. This area of Ft Ord has a very hard packed surface and the ground handles water and rain very well. Last year, a strong storm hit during this event and it made for a epic day of Cyclocross racing.

With the Surf City Series finals taking place on Saturday in Watsonville, it looks to be a great weekend of racing in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

The CCCX Series would like to thank its Sponsors who all make an effort to keep the racing going on the Central Coast: Fox Racing Shox, Ritchey, The Vitamin Shoppe, WTB, Family Cycling Center, Calabazas Cyclery, Trail Head Cycles, Joselyns, Castro Valley Cycles, Pegasus Bicycle Works, Scotts Valley Cycle Sport, Cal Giant Inc., Monster Energy, Hot Shoppe Design Factory.

Alec and I were scrubbing the trails yesterday at Coyote Point and ran into one of our rangers and we finally found out where our beach has gone. It seems a few years ago a special ramp was installed for handicap access that completely altered the tidal patterns - enough so that all the sand has been picked up and relocated about 1/2 mile west underneath the power towers. Those of you who have been to CCCP since we started in 2002 would remember just how long the beach was in those days when Tornado Tommy Frishknecht earned his first victory on the beach. The ranger also mentioned the undercutting of the beach front is now so severe the park may even lose the Beach House building. We also got word the old restaurant on the hill has abandoned their lease and the property will be razed and no construction will affect future CCCP's. We're safe for the near future at Coyote Point.

We hope everyone enjoyed the 5 venues used for this year's BASPCS, presented by Accelerade (and especially the pizza supplied by Steve, Scott, Elizabeth and the Acccelerade gang) - we expect to use those same courses in 2007. Our extraordinary thanks to The extraordinary Roaring Mouse crew who have pitched in on set-up days, race days and most profoundly on clean-up after the events. We are very glad to exit the venues before dark and that's only possible with a bunch of Muscular Mice.

A quick note on podium photos - Larry Rosa caught each and every podium on sunday, from NCNCA District medalists to Round 5 presentations to final BASPCS Series presentations and hope you'll catch his work on the Mouse house site http://www.teamroaringmouse.com/pictures.htm
[Ed note: Larry's whole gallery is here]

The Roaring Mouse "Team Competie" was a ding dong battle on sunday between Webcor, Sycip and HRS/Rock Lobster from the opening Cat. "C" event. There were lead changes through the final 3 races with the final Women's race finally tipping the advantage to HRS/Rock Lobster - the 2006 Roaring Mouse "Team Competie" Champion. Larry's got a great series of shots with the Lobsters and their new Duvel mantlepiece.

I only got to watch a few moments of actual racing and the one I remember most vividly was Mark Noble and Todd Hoefer in the last 300 yards of their Masters 35+ duel. After leaving the picnic grounds and off the curb into the parking lot finish line, Noble jumped and took the 1/2 bike lead, only to have Hoefer take the next inside turn, lead into the final corner only to have Noble snatch the final, critical inside turn and it was game over. Racing - just plain hot all the way to the finish line - position and speed. Whew!
