New Look, Same Development and Sustainable Cycling Mission for CLIF BAR Team

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New Look, Same Development and Sustainable Cycling Mission for CLIF BAR Team

Boulder, CO - September 25, 2007 - CLIF BAR is pleased to announce it's title sponsorship of the American Cycling Association's development cyclo-cross team for ages 13-22. Now in it's fourth season, the CLIF BAR Development Cyclo-Cross Team builds on the solid foundation built by the former TIAA-CREF/CLIF BAR team, and meshes nicely with the large ACA Mudskippers team of 8-12 year olds.

The team will be featuring a new green look to correspond to the team's pioneering sustainable cycling mission, with plenty of green on the uniforms and green Salsa Chili con Crosso bikes. Thanks to inspiration and support from CLIF BAR, Pedro's, and many other sponsors, the team is stepping up it's commitment to sustainable team operations and also increasing it's ability to educate and inspire the cycling community about sustainable cycling.

Now seventeen riders strong, the CLIF BAR Development team will be led by team captains Brady Kappius (2-time Worlds team member) and Daniel Summerhill (2007 Junior Worlds silver medalist). Joining Kappius and Summerhill - who took 1st and 3rd in an early Colorado race - will be three 13-15 year olds, many rookie cross racers, and returning veterans Taylor Lane, Andrew Barker, Jim Lennon, and Taylor Phinney.

The team will be competing in a full schedule of Colorado races, as well as the US Gran Prix Series and Nationals. Daniel Summerhill will be focusing on a more extensive schedule that will see him start the season at Cross Vegas this Wednesday, and include several other high-profile UCI events.

The team's mission is to not only help these young cross racers become successful athletes, competing at the highest level in the US and Europe - but to help them develop into well-rounded, exceptional leaders ready to make a difference in the cycling community and their own communities.

Please visit the team website, www.sustainablecycling.com, for complete information about the team, it's sponsors, and the sustainable cycling mission. Stay tuned for exciting news about upcoming sustainable cycling projects being developed by the CLIF BAR Development Cyclo-Cross Team.

Starting at 9:00 a.m., this Sunday- Sept 23, the Men's- C division and the Junior racers will kick off the action of the 2007 CCCX cyclocross series. This will be the 56th Cyclocross race in the history of The Central Coast Cyclocross Series. The main events of the day will be the Elite Women's race at 12:15 p.m., and the Elite Men's race at 1:15 p.m.

Also, for 2007 the CCCX Cyclocross Series, I am proud to announce two brand new divisions for Northern California racers. Starting at 12:15 p.m. there will now be a Single-Speed Women's Division, and a 45+ Women's Division. These two "Super Prestigious" categories are a first for Nor-Cal, and will highlight some great racing action. They will join the rest of the female racers who start at 12:15 p.m. The CCCX Series was the first Northern California Series to have a Single-Speed division(2001), and Women racing in their own time slot on track time dedicated just to their groups(2000). New divisions bring new opportunities for racing exploits, and the CCCX Series is pleased to expand their racing categories. There will also be a free 1 lap kids race at 12:00 noon.

Manzanita Park in Prunedale is a great venue for Cyclocross and has a long history of two wheeled racing action. This will be the 16th cyclocross race to be contested at Manzanita Park dating back to 1997. This venue also hosted the Northern California District Championships in 2000. The park features challenging trails, elevation gains and descents, sand, grass, and pavement to test everyone's Cyclocross skills. Here is a list of riders who dominated that District Championship race in 2000,

At every CCCX event medals will be awarded to top finishers in all divisions.
Elite Men and Elite Women will be racing for an instant cash payout.
Master 35+ A Men, and Master 45 + A Men will also receive an instant cash payout depending on field size.

The Bicycle Trip has an outstanding Junior cycling program and stays very active in local cycling activities and advocacy. They join Family Cycling Center, which is also from Santa Cruz, and has been a long time CCCX sponsor, in making a strong statement for the dedication the Santa Cruz area has toward supporting Cyclocross racing. Saison Cinq for Bay Area Super Prestige Cyclocross Series

"Saison Cinq for Bay Area Super Prestige Cyclocross Series"

www.pilarcitos.com

Our prep work for the 2007 season is in its final stages and we're
looking forward to another great selection of events for northern
California cyclocross players. 4 of our favorite courses are
returning in this year's presentation - Candlestick Point (our 7th
race there since 2004), McLaren Park in San Francisco - last year's
newcomer to the rotation and a spectacular venue, Golden Gate Park
which will also be the site for the final event of the brand
new "NCNCA Cup, presented by Sycip Cycles", and Coyote Point in San
Mateo, returning to the lineup for the 10th time since 2002.

Brand new for 2007 and still partially under wraps while we complete
permit requirements is Sierra Point in Brisbane. Many of you remember
2003 where we kicked off the 1st Bay Area Super Prestige Series on
landfill adjacent to San Francisco Bay and the local yacht harbor.
This new course is nearby and will feature some marvellous swoopty-
doo sections as well as a tight 6 minute circuit. Our history at
Hellyer Park was short-lived - we knew from conversations with the
Park Rangers that a bike trail extension was to be installed in 2007
just behind the track and we had plans to incorporate that with this
year's event. However, a permanent wire fence accompanied the bike
path with no gateways to the upper section of Hellyer - and that
means no 'cross course for us any longer.

We are pleased to announce a new partner joining the Bay Area Super
Prestige Cyclocross Series - Voler will be helping us provide
something very new to our podium presentations - Series Leader's
Jerseys. All of our cateogry sponsors - and they've supported the
events since inception in 2003 - will be prominently displayed during
our "Saison Cinq" award ceremonies.

We have a slightly revised schedule for competitors this year - and 1
new category. We will officially recognize our U14 athletes this
season and they will be racing with their older Junior (U18) buds and
Category "C" Women will complete that heat. More details can be found
on the Pilarcitos website. Racing age for athletes wil be their
calendar age in 2008 - if you're going to be 10 years old in 2008 you
are eligible for the U14 fields.

At our first event of the season, starting positions will be
determined by 2006 Series final standings for all of our Category "A"
fields. After the first race we will use those results for subsequent
call-ups for every field, including "B" and "C" Categories. 2006 saw
721 dfferent competitors participate during the series. We plan on
continuing the day-of-event registration process we're pursued since
2002 but realize some categories (2006 "C" Men had 139 different
competitors and a field size of 80+ at GG Park) may see field limits
established in the future which would require on-line pre-
registration.

See you on October 7th - Sierra Point

Hopes are high for podium finishes at the National Championship in Kansas.

Leading the team will be Brent Prenzlow of Carlsbad, California formerly of Celo-Pacific. Brent brings a wealth of experience and results to the table and will be defending his title in the SoCal Prestige Cyclocross Series. Brent, who placed 3rd in the 2006 US Cyclocross National Championships Masters 34-39, has 68 career cyclocross wins as an elite racer and is a 6-time California State Champion. Brent will be joined by rider/team manager Tyler Johnson formerly of Richard Sachs, and CCA Kona. Rounding out the Elite team will be NORBA standout Christian Favata, up and coming Georgia rider Jamie Pair, and a pair of strong U-23's, Virginians Jeff Buckles and Stu Louder.

Alan, whose bikes boast 20 Cyclocross World titles, will be providing the team with Pearl White Alan 12K Blade carbon monocoque frames and Xtreme DCS aluminum frames with full carbon monocoque forks. "Alan's cyclocross geometry and materials are spot on for high level cyclocross racing. Because the frames are made in 20 traditional sizes, Alan cross bikes offer virtually custom sizing." says rider/ manager Tyler Johnson. The team will be outfitting the bikes with Supertype deep section carbon wheels, Primato cranks, cassettes, and chains all from Italian manufacturer MICHE. Helping to keep the team upright and moving forward will be Challenge Grifo tires, which will be supplied in 3 different tread types to accommodate all conditions. "The Team unanimously acknowledged Challenge tires as the best tubulars for cross racing and we are very happy with the generous support and help we are receiving from the company. Their passion for the sport is fantastic", said Chris Snead, Co-Owner of Stellina Sport. Italian maker, Selcof will provide bars, stem and seatposts to trim out the cockpit, and the riders will pilot there bikes onboard Prologo Choice and Nago saddles. Clipping in and out of Crank Brothers pedals, the riders will spring over the mud and barriers in Lake Shoes and gloves. Stopping will be handled with the combo of TRP Carbon 950 brakes and top mounts, JagWire Sleek Pro Cross Lite cartridge holders and wires, and SwissStop Yellow King brake pads. Verge Sports kits will be keeping all the riders looking good and hopefully warm and dry all season. Rudy project will provide helmets and glasses to keep our heads safe and the sun and mud out of our eyes.

We all look forward to meeting you out at the races, so don’t be shy. Come say," Hi".
