CCCX Series Final Set For This Sunday In Winter Storm Conditions

From Dusty Downs:

This will not be Kansas, where Northern California riders battled to so many podium finishes at the past National Cyclocross Championships. However, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect, the racing at the CCCX Series final for 2007-08 should be epic and memorable for all who make the trip to Monterey and the Ft Ord Day Camp this Sunday. Nor-Cal riders such as Justin Robinson, Andy Jacques-Maynes, Alan Coates, Todd Hoefer, Gannon Myall, Chris D'Aluisio, Josh Snead, Rachel Llyod, Josie Beggs Jacques-Maynes, Barbara Howe, Sarah Kerlin, Stella Carey, Shelley Olds, Beverly Chaney, Julie Bates, Thomas Feix, Norm Kriess, Jim Gentes, Peter Dahlstrand, Frank Cauresma, and Aaron Kereluk, all went and battled the horrible conditions at the Kansas National Championships and came away with great success. Now the rest of the Northern California racers will have a chance to race when the going gets tuff and winter weather hits in full force. They are calling for heavy rains during the days leading up to the CCCX Series final, with possible rain the day of racing. There will not be snow on the ground, and the temperatures will be warm compared to Kansas, but the action will be exciting and CCCX Series titles are up for grabs in the final race of the year. The Ft Ord grounds have been extremely dry all year, the sandy and hard packed dirt sucks up water and makes for awesome racing even in the worst conditions possible. Some area in and around the day camp actually gets perfect for racing and riding when the rain is heaviest, as the terrain is sandy and it soaks up water like a sponge. So the racing should be challenging and exciting with lots of water involved. The CCCX Race Course for the final looks to be a special route for Cyclocross, using some of the sections from the past race at the Day Camp, as well as a few new sections that have never been used for a Cyclocross race at this venue.

Please go to www.cccx.org for directions and info for the racing.

Also one of Northern California's finest Cycling Photographers Rick Rasmussen will be in attendance to photograph each athlete in action. All of Mr. Rasmussen's photos are available on his web site, there will be a link to the site on the CCCX Results page, and his specialty is getting photos of riders in adverse weather conditions doing their thing.

Happy New Year to all!, see you at the races.
