CCCX SERIES FINAL THIS SUNDAY JAN.7 AT FT. ORD DAY CAMP.

The 2006-07 edition of the Central Coast Cyclocross series concludes this
coming Sunday Jan. 7 at the day camp portion of the East Garrison area of Ft
Ord. The weather looks to be grand and is shaping up to be perfect cycling
conditions. After this last rain the dirt should be awesome for Cyclocross,
with a little bit of slick stuff in the shaded tree area's, and grippy
traction every where else. The course in this section of East Garrison is
very fun to race on, and it features elevation change, fire roads, single
track, pavement, mandatory dismounts, and one run-up section. This should
be a welcome change after the 'Mud War" of CCCX #4 when it rained and rained
and rained, turning the course into mud mayhem and certain sections into
small ponds and streams.

Some division titles are settled going into the final race, but others will
come down to a final race show-down for the series win. The men's B
division is extremely close with these three riders headed for a gun fight
in the former Army Base at Ft Ord, Geoff Wilcox(Raleigh) , Max
Clifford(Team N.O.T.S.), and Lander Bravo(Lapierre/ Ritchey). The "Ultimate
Fighter" battle looks to be in the Women's 35+ division where Shawna
Potocky(Spokesman Bicycles) and Julianna Perry(Team Santa Cruz-SCCCC) are
locked in a epic tussle for series honors. The two talented female racers
are separated by only one small point, so who ever crosses the finish line
first out of the two should end up series champion. In the Women's C
division Jenny Fiex(2 kids & a Mortgage) and Lauren Haughey(S.F. Sport &
Spine) are separated by a mere two points, so the best finisher on the day
between the two will most likely claim top series honors. If it comes down
to a tie, the tie breaker is determined by who places higher in the final
race. Frank Cuaresma(San Jose Bike Club) in the 55+ division is the only
undefeated rider posting 4 wins in 4 races, and looks set to claim series
MVP Honors if he has one more win in those muscular legs of his.

The CCCX series would like to congratulate all the Northern California
racers who traveled to Rhode Island to compete in the National
Championships. Nor Cal racers made a great impression at the Cal Giant Inc
sponsored National Championship event claiming many fine finishes and
results.

The CCCX Series would also like to thank its sponsors who make a strong
effort to support Cyclocross Racing in Northern California: Fox Racing Shox,
Monster Energy, WTB, Ritchey, Hot Shoppe Design Factory, Cal Giant Inc., The
Vitamin Shoppe, Calabazas Cyclery, Castro Valley Cyclery, Trail Head Cycles,
Family Cycling Center, Scotts Valley Cycle Sport, Joselyns, Pegasus Bicycle
Works.
