The 49’ers are taking a breather this weekend, leaving Candlestick Point State Recreation area open for Round 2 of the Bay Area Super Prestige Cyclocross Series, presented by Accelerade – and we intend to fill the parking spaces with ‘cross fans instead of grid iron fans.

Extended weather reports expect – sun, sun, and more sun. There will be no standing water on the course, except for the dusty locations of barricades and a couple downhills that last year raised a cloud of chaff. Our staff will be on hand with their orange 5-gallon thermos jugs to periodically throw a water layer onto the sand and keep that haze at bay.

And we’re adding our 2nd Ritchey Neutral Wheels tent to the course – 2 locations to stop for a spare and get back into the race. As always, riders can stash their own spare wheels and bikes anywhere on the course except inside the Start/Finish zone.

Just released on both Pilarcitos and Roaring Mouse websites are the 2006 Team results in the “Roaring Mouse Team Competie” and with a Round 1 lead – it’s HRS/Rocklobster with a 1 point margin over the Sycip gang. Check here for the news: http://teamroaringmouse.com Final award will be made at District Championships at CCCP on December 3rd and consists of the most fabulous prize possible – Bragging Rights until the 2007 season! Take it with you to Providence!

And speaking of awards – we are finalizing our packages to the 14 different categories in this year’s BASP series, presented by Accelerade and are pleased to announce some headline packages going to the winners of the following categories:

Men, Category “C” – a 2006 Bianchi “Axis” cyclocross bicycle – from the Celeste people themselves – Bianchi USA

Women, Category “C” – a 2006 Felt F1X cyclocross bicycle – from Roaring Mouse Cycles and Felt

Master Men, 35+ “A” – a Ritchey WCS wheelset from Ritchey logic, and the best handmade Dugast tires from Dick and retiring-from-business Eurocycling Imports

Master Men, 35+ “B” – a Cannondale CAAD 9 frameset from Big Swingin’ Cycles of San Francisco

Men Cateogry "A" have added nearly $400 to their series prize package with a hefty turnout at Hellyer Park - and just think of Noble, Hernandez, and Funke - all Masters racers - getting the 1st row call up in front of some of the Big Kahunas who were in Gloucester (pronounced "Glow-cester", right?) and missed Hellyer. It's going to be a sweet start.

The Pilarcitos Emporium will be open for business this weekend and will have new
BASP T-shirts (3 different shirt colors – black, red, and white), hoodie sweatshirts, for the “Hooskie-twoski-brewski” fans BASP pint glasses, and bells – you gotta have bells. Sheila Moon caps are on the way and they are GORGEOUS and we will have in time for Round 3 Sheila Moon Women’s T’s in full BASP regalia. And on the Pilarcitos Bistro Menu - Chili Frito pie returns to the menu. We have all electrical generators working full steam so there WILL BE COFFEE in the morning.

And from our reg. Crew – how many competitors from Round 1 can put their hands on their series number? Start digging in the laundry pile and bring it to all BASP Series events.

Don't go through the start finish line during your warmup.

The Best Kinds of Bicycle ShopsI love bikes. Bicycles of every shape, color, type and size will draw me like a fly to honey, so it took me a few years to discover that I do have a preference for particular kinds of bicycle shops. So, you have your trendy, high volume bike shop, where you can find all the latest models from the cutting edge of bike technology and design. These types of bicycle shop are also likely to offer some type of repair service. Then you have your smaller, perhaps family operated bicycle shop. In my experience this type of bicycle shop is even more likely to offer reasonably priced repair services. You may have guessed that one thing I tend to notice about a given bike shop is the types and cost of their repair services. After riding bicycles for years now, theres one thing that always eventually happens again: bikes need to be repaired. Most people pick up repair skills over months or years of riding, but if you need a repair done by someone else, its nice to have a local bike shop thats prepared to assist you and your situation.By far, the best bicycle shops out there are the ones that offer repair services at reasonable prices and deal in second hand bikes. Bike shops that are really good at one of these, are generally good at providing the other type of service.Call around and find out which bicycle shops refurbish used bicycles. You may be surprised at just how nice a refurbished bike can be. Think about it, instead of adding to a landfill somewhere, an old bike can be made perfectly new and functional again and become yours!Of course refurbished bikes are also a great way to get a good bike while saving a lot of money as compared to a brand new bicycle. The more bicycle shops that deal with recycled bikes, the more people can afford to own bicycles. Less car exhaust and more exercise and human interaction is good all around. When I visit bicycles shops that dont like to work with recycling bicycles, I like to voice my opinion about what a great service that is, how attractive it is to be as a customer. Its the little encounters in our daily lives that change the world everyday. Take part in bicycle recycling and help your little corner of the world! To learn more about everything bicycles vist my site at: BrensMartUSA Bicycles Have a geat day and stay healthy!Brenda Sue
